Hi, My name is Ellen. I'm 19 and I go to the University of Kentucky. I'm a journalism major and writing is one of my favorite things. I like photography too, there's just something about capturing moments that intrigues me. I love music, pretty much any kind. My favorite band right now is Panic at the Disco. I like Starbucks Frappuchinos and road trips. The biggest thing that's happened to me this week was getting an A on my 10 page English paper that I was certain was a C. Finals are coming up next week and I think they're going to go better than last semester. Summer is coming and I'm going to be in Seattle for a while when my cousin has her first baby girl in July. Then I'm going to Guatemala in October to build houses and paint at an orphanage. This will be my second trip there and I think my brother, who works in construction with my dad, might go too.
I know it's hard when it seems like the people closest to you don't care. There might even be a few who don't exactly agree with the cause you've taken up to defend. But I want you to know that you're twice the person I could ever hope to be. You're maintaining our country where my biggest worry can be over English grades and college degrees instead of staying alive and finding my next meal. Thank you for what you're doing for me, my family, my friends, and everyone else in this country. You are doing what many would never even dream of and that is what makes you awesome.
